If it weren’t for second chances
where would we be?
Hyneas roaming in the cemetery
If it weren’t for slander, injustice, treachery –
what would have befallen us?
Infants sucking on spare candy
If it weren’t for the impossible odds,
the unknown ends
If it weren’t for some happenstance
masking itself as destiny
You and I would be on different shores
bound by other strings

The river meanders
yet empties in the sea
The heart stumbles and shatters
yet understands it is free
The longing never ceases
yet there is peace in absence
There is hope in the silence
There is light
midst the crevasses
we’ll eventually see
